Animography
Animography: (n.) Animation + Typography = A Designer’s Dream.
Has sending e-mail or writing a blog really become so tedious, that we need something a little more “fun” to write with? Certainly, you can draw pictures and send them by letter in the mail, but when is the last time you sent a letter in the mail? When is the last time (if you’re not a creative mind) you drew a picture? With new animated fonts, Jeroen Krielaars hopes the typography enthusiasts will enjoy this new fad a little more than basic live fonts given by Apple. The word is animography, folks and you had better catch on quick if you want to make it in this evolving type-world. Animography typefaces are much more complex than what designers may be used to. Starting as Adobe After Effects files, the fonts can be tweaked in terms of color, wiggle, style, line thickness, duration, and much more. The key is creating a font that doesn’t look like it’s been seen a thousand times. Will animography take on the world one animation at a type…er, I mean time? Probably not. But, it’s still really cool (especially for type lovers like us) to imagine a world with sophisticated fonts bouncing around all over our bleak e-mail and blog posts.
