Social Networking Sights Gain Most Attention On Fridays and Weekends
Antsy workers cannot wait to bolt out the door and enjoy the weekends every Friday. In hopes of speeding up the day, they are spending more time on social networking sites, according to an article in Mashable.
By Analyzing more than 200 of its clients’ Facebook pages over a 14-day period, Buddy Media found that engagement on Thursdays and Fridays was 18% higher than the rest of the week. Buddy Media reported that users were actually more engaged with Facebook on Thursday rather than Friday.
Twitter seems to be the opposite. Twitter Chief Revenue Officer Adam Bain said that Twitter users are more engaged with tweets on Fridays. According to Mashable. Rick Liebling, director of digital strategy at Coyne PR agrees that Twitter picks up on Fridays.
“It’s a matter of people finally pushing past the work week and coasting toward the weekend, picking their head up a bit to see what’s going on and what their friends are up to,” said Liebling in and article on Mashable.
According to ProBlogger, if social marketers want to hit the nail on the head, Friday at 4pm is the most retweetable time of the week.
“This data was based on analysis of nearly 100 million retweets, so in aggregate, Friday at 4pm is indeed the most retweetable time of the week,” said ProBlogger.
It doesn’t end there. It seems the public’s intensified love for social media on Fridays spills into the weekend as well. According to ProBlogger, articles that are published on Saturday and Sunday tend to be shared on Facebook more than those published during the week. Wired reported that one reason could be that more than 50% of American companies block Facebook at work.
Dan Zarrella, a social media scientist at HubSpot feels that the slow pace of Friday, Saturday and Sunday adds to the increased activity.
“As the overall activity seems to slow down from the hustle and bustle of the week, readers can give each tweet more attention because there are fewer other tweets fighting for it,” Zarella said in an article on Gadget News Update.
